Entry for February 8, 2008

Here are fabrics painted with three of the stamps shown in the previous photo. Whenever I paint on fabric I try to create coordinates that I can use together in a piece of artwork. These three show a variety of styles and scale. The first is a half yard and the other two are fat quarters.
I began with white PFD (prepared for dying, which means it has no finishes on it that might interfere with the paint) cotton fabrics that I dye painted this minty green.
To dye paint, simply mix your fabric paint with enough water to make it as thin as water. Emerse the fabric in the watered down paint, swish it around to saturate then wring out well and lay flat or wrinkled up to dry. Flat will yeild a solid color, wrinkled or bunched up will yeild a mottled color.
1 cup of watered down paint will yeild about three yards of fabric. I began with 3 Tbs of paint then added the water. The color will lighten up to 25% when mixed with that much water so mix your colors accordingly . I use Jacquard Dynaflow for dye painting.
